Charming and gentle scenery, delicate and beautiful mountains and rivers, long-standing history and Culture and prosperous urban economy have comprised unique tourist resources of Jiangsu province richly endowed by nature. The famous ancient Grand Canal runs world's third longest river the Yangtze River traverses the province from west to east. Natural scenes and human landscape add radiance and beauty to each other, and famous historic relics are spread throughout the province, The historical relics of the six ancient dynasties in Nanjing, the classical gardens in Suzhou, the mountains and waters of the Taihu Lake in Wuxi, the ancient capital culture of Yangzhou, the historical remains of Qin and Han dynasties in Xuzhou, the charming scenes of the rivers and the sea in Nantong, the mountain and forest temples in Zhenjiang, the caves and bamboo forest are all places that both the Chinese and foreign tourists enjoy themselves so much as to forget to go home.

    Jiangsu is one of the seven key tourist provinces in China. The 15 cities of Nanjing. Yangzhou, Zhenjiang, Changzhou, Wuxi, Yixin, Suzhou, Changzhou, Nantong, Lianyungang, Xuzhou, Huaiyin, Yancheng, Taizhou, Suqian, and Changshu, Yixing, Huaian, each with its own unique tourist features, are located along the banks of both sides of the Yangtze River, the Grand Canal and the Hu-Ning railway line. With very convenient transportation, they are therefore representing so called "group advantages" for Jiangsu's tourist industry. In recent years, Jiangsu has actively developed "the ten mile Qin-Huai scenic spot" of Nanjing, Hanshan Temple of Suzhou, Panmen Tourist Region, Emperor Qianlong's boat trip route in Yangzhou, film and culture touring spots in Wuxi, the Folk Culture Village, simulate towns of Tang Dynasty, Three Kingdoms and of Europe. In 1998 more than 1,180,000 man time over seas tourists visited Jiangsu.

    Tourist facilities in Jiangsu are being perfected day by day. At present there are 208 middle and high class star-rated tourist hotels offering 25000 guest rooms in Jiangsu province. There are more than 66 international travel service agents, and 351 domestic travel agents providing various services. A number of new scenic spots are being built. The first-stage construction of tourist holiday camps at Taihu Lake in Suzhou & Wuxi has already been completed. The operation of 5 provincial tourist and holiday resorts is in full swing.
